[似人似鬼] is the first illustrated zine produced by Rising Formula design team. Using the Ghost Festival in Chinese culture as the main theme, we designed 8 different ghost characters with different personalities and names.
Although they were ghosts but indirectly describe the "ghost-like" people we met in real life.
Zine cover is inspired by the traditional Chinese Lunar calendar, which will often includes the luck for selecting auspicious days.【宜】means "suitable" while【忌】means "not suitable".
We created a short Chinese poetry for each of the ghosts, and use Chinese calligraphy as our typeface.
Each of the ghosts have their own postcard design.
【胆小鬼】means "scaredy-cat", which is why it looks tough on the outside but actually the real ghost is hiding inside the stomach.
【假开心鬼】means "fake happiness", forced to look happy on the outside by wearing a fake smiling mask.
Each of the ghosts has their own cut out sticker.
In Chinese culture, talisman has the ability to expel ghost or brings luck like a charm. Therefore we wrote blessings such as prosperity, world peace, love, fortune, hoping that in this world full of "ghost-like" people, readers can receive some good luck.
